Intermediate Wildland Firefighter

Course Overview

The Intermediate Wildfire course builds on the foundational knowledge gained in Basic Wildfire training, shifting the focus toward tactical thinking, strategic awareness, and operational safety in complex wildfire environments.

This theory-only course is designed for individuals with at least two seasons of wildfire field experience, allowing you to connect real-life operations with more advanced concepts. Whether you’re a crew leader, experienced volunteer, or part of a company that supports wildfire response, this course helps you develop the confidence and knowledge to assess dynamic fire conditions, make safer decisions, and contribute more effectively to wildfire operations.

You’ll revisit core concepts from the basic level while diving deeper into fire behaviour, terrain analysis, suppression strategies, and hazard mitigation – all within the broader context of integrated wildfire management.
