Can you tell us a bit about your background and your approach to wildfire safety?
My experience spans community safety and security, with a strong focus on living in harmony with our environment. As a student of fire, I’m passionate about seeking proactive solutions and providing training to both rural and urban communities, especially those living in the Wildland Urban Interface. Helping people become #WildfireReady is something I deeply believe in, as preparation is truly key.
What qualifications do you hold in fire investigation?
I hold a Graduate Certificate in Fire and Explosion Investigation from Charles Sturt University in Australia. In 2021, I was honoured with the Executive Dean’s Award for outstanding academic achievement. My speciality lies in Wildland Fire Investigations.
How do you bring your expertise into your professional and volunteer work?
I bring my passion and attention to detail not only to my business role but also in my spare time. For over 11 years, I’ve volunteered as a wildland firefighter and Single Resource Leader with the Volunteer Wildfire Services across the Western Cape of South Africa. This hands-on experience keeps me grounded and connected to the realities of wildfire management.
How do you engage with communities about wildfire safety?
I regularly give talks and demonstrations on wildland firefighting and wildfire safety to schools, communities, landowners, and firefighters. Sharing knowledge is vital to helping people live safely while enjoying the beauty of their natural surroundings.
